If you drive electric in Thailand, keep an eye on the clock from July: EV Station PluZ – the country’s largest charging network with around 1,300 locations (operated by OR/PTT) – is introducing an idle fee. That’s a penalty for leaving your car plugged in after charging has finished, blocking the spot for others.
What exactly is the idle fee?
The fee only kicks in once charging is complete. After a short grace period, the clock starts – charged per minute that the car remains at the charger.

Why introduce it?
The reasoning is simple: popular fast chargers get congested when cars sit there after charging. The fee should free up chargers faster – a model already familiar from Tesla and other countries. For anyone who charges on the road regularly, it’s ultimately good news: less waiting, more free stalls.
What does it mean for Geely drivers?
Whether you drive an EX2, EX5 or Starray EM-i – the rule applies to every vehicle equally; it has nothing to do with the brand. The one thing that matters: move your car promptly once it’s full. A few simple habits are enough.
- Turn on charge-complete notifications in the app so you don’t miss the end.
- Don’t charge to 100% if you don’t need to – on fast chargers, up to 80% usually makes most sense anyway.
- If you’re eating or shopping, set a timer that reminds you before charging ends.
